Energy Underwriter

Job description

What if your next underwriting role gave you the freedom to build, the tools to move faster, and the opportunity to share in the success you help create?

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an ambitious Energy Underwriter to join a dynamic and growing insurer that is challenging traditional approaches to underwriting. With significant investment in technology, a genuinely entrepreneurial culture, and a business model built around employee ownership, this is an opportunity to join an organisation that is doing things differently.

This role will focus on developing and growing a profitable portfolio of New Business Energy risks, working closely with brokers to identify opportunities, strengthen market relationships and drive sustainable growth.

Why This Opportunity Stands Out

A Stake in the Outcome

The business believes that success should be shared. Every employee holds equity in the parent company, creating a culture where individuals are invested in both the short-term performance and long-term success of the organisation. Many members of the team have also chosen to invest their own capital, reflecting their confidence in the business and its future direction.

Technology Designed for Underwriters

At the heart of the business is a proprietary underwriting platform built to improve efficiency and enhance the underwriting experience. By enabling complex risks to be quoted and bound in under a minute, underwriters can focus their time where it adds the most value - trading, relationship building and underwriting profitable business.

A Culture Built for Growth

The organisation operates with a flat structure and a digital-first mindset, removing unnecessary layers of hierarchy and enabling quicker decision-making. Employees are trusted to take ownership, contribute ideas and influence outcomes, creating an environment where entrepreneurial underwriters can thrive.

The Role

As an Energy Underwriter, you will play a key role in driving the growth of the Energy portfolio, with a particular focus on generating and converting new business opportunities.
Key responsibilities will include:

  • Underwriting new Energy risks in line with appetite, pricing and profitability objectives.
  • Developing and strengthening relationships with brokers and key trading partners.
  • Identifying new business opportunities and contributing to portfolio growth strategies.
  • Delivering high levels of service and responsiveness to brokers.
  • Working collaboratively with underwriting leadership to support portfolio development.
  • Maintaining strong technical underwriting discipline while balancing commercial objectives.
  • Monitoring market trends and competitor activity to identify opportunities for growth.

About You

  • Experience underwriting Energy risks within the Company, Lloyd's or London Market environment.
  • A strong new business mindset with proven broker development capabilities.
  • Sound technical underwriting knowledge and commercial awareness.
  • Excellent relationship management and negotiation skills.
  • A proactive and entrepreneurial approach to winning and retaining business.
  • A desire to work within a modern, technology-enabled underwriting environment.

What's on Offer

  • Equity participation in the parent company.
  • A business that values innovation, speed and collaboration.
  • Access to proprietary technology designed to enhance underwriting effectiveness.
  • The opportunity to contribute to the growth of a strategically important portfolio.
  • Competitive salary, bonus and benefits package.
  • A platform to develop your career within a high-growth and ambitious organisation.

This is an excellent opportunity for an Energy Underwriter looking to join a business where ownership, technology and underwriting expertise combine to create a genuinely differentiated proposition in the market.
