Happy 1 year IDEX anniversary to Shelley Hobson

27 Oct 2017

Shelley Hobson joined IDEX in October 2016 as an Associate Consultant. This month she has been celebrating her first year anniversary at IDEX, as well as her recent promotion to Senior Consultant.

So we asked her to give an insight into her journey so far…

How did you get into recruitment?

I was headhunted directly by IDEX on LinkedIn. I wasn’t specifically looking for a career in recruitment, but I was looking for a role that was both rewarding and challenging. When I spoke to IDEX, that was exactly what was pitched to me, and my first year in recruitment has certainly not failed to live up to my expectations.

Why did you choose IDEX?

I chose IDEX as they are a service focused business, who actually want to create long-lasting relationships and build a career for people. I knew after my first meeting with IDEX that I wanted to join the company; after finding out the way company works, the training they were going to provide and the opportunities for career progression.

What have you learnt in your first year at IDEX?

Recruitment is not as easy as people think it is. On the surface, you follow a simple process but there are many challenges that you face along the way due to the fact you are dealing with a massive aspect of people’s lives – it is an emotional rollercoaster.

What sort of roles do you work on?

I recruit within the Financial Services sector focusing mainly on Paraplanners, Office Support, Management and Supervisors within the West Midlands.

What sort of skills do you need to get into these roles?

The roles that I tend to recruit for require the CII Level 4 Diploma in Financial Planning, which is increasingly becoming more of an essential requirement within the sector. It’s not just the qualifications that my clients are looking for, they are looking for talent with a wealth of experience within the market.

What do you love most about your job?

What I love most about my job is how happy you can make an individual you have placed. The journey you take together from being complete strangers to helping them to find the right role, in the right company, helping them to prepare for interviews and being there at the end to give them the final feedback or even better… the offer. You build a professional relationship and they genuinely appreciate how much you do for them.

What has been the highlight of your first year at IDEX?

My highlight is when I got my first placement. I finally got to see all my hard work fall into place with a client that we hadn’t worked with previously. This is now my biggest client and the candidate I placed with them is happier than ever in their new position.
