Assistant Underwriter
Birmingham/West Midlands
Salary - up to £23,000

Purpose of Job

A well respected insurance company based in Birmingham are looking for an Assistant Underwriter to help achieve regional income and profit objectives by assisting the Underwriters in the delivery of an efficient case underwriting service to brokers and supporting the management of the regional account.

Main Tasks

1 Process new business, renewals, general post and mid-term adjustments within agreed authority levels
2 Ensure that service standards are achieved
3 Process survey requests, reinsurance worksheets, policy documentation and accounting debits/credits
4 Maintain diary control including risk improvement follow up within agreed authority levels and service standard
5 Deal with account queries within service standard
6 Work collaboratively with other parts of the organisation, especially the claims, survey and sales teams, when required
7 Accurately complete reinsurance worksheets

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
Financial
• Contribute towards achievement of Gross Written Premium (GWP) Vs budget
• Contribute towards achievement of Loss Ratio objectives
• Contribute towards new Business GWP vs budget
• Contribute towards retained GWP vs budget
• Contribute towards achievement of business mix objectives (at account level)

Relationships (Internal & External)
• Achievement of customer service standards
• Levels of complaints received and resolution of complaints

Organisation
• Underwriting guide and procedures complied with
• Binder complied with
• Issue of new business and renewal documents
• Mid term adjustments, general post handling within service standards
• Diary control and risk improvement follow up
• Data integrity
• Contract certainty

The jobholder must have insurance industry experience, strong interpersonal skills and work in a structured, planned manner.
