Working for a successful national advisory firm in Birmingham City Centre on the healthcare assessment team.

Areas of Responsibility

* To understand and accurately interpret a wide range of health product contract wordings and be able to asses a claim through to payment and/or resolution
* To be able to interpret medical evidence and confidently challenge Medical Officers and Doctors
* To be able to accurately interpret financial accounts and extrapolate relevant information for ongoing calculation of benefit level
* To probe/challenge medical and financial evidence, make informed decisions whilst remaining logical and objectively focused
* Maintain a broad understanding of medical terminology
* To develop non-standard underwriting skills by interpretation of medical reports claims visitor’s reports, private investigators reports and discussion with Medical Officer
* Deal with complaints or appeals to terminate or decline a claim, which can include correspondence with Solicitors or the financial ombudsman service
* To fully understand and implement timely claim reviews adopting an innovative approach where necessary

* A challenging approach to existing work practices
* Excellent communication skills including ability to produce free form letters that can be of a technical nature from a medical, financial or contractual basis
* Have an organised and flexible approach to work
* Proven claims management techniques in relation to income protection and critical illness products
* Ability to produce persuasive arguments with supporting evidence to challenge Financial Ombudsman and Legal Advisers acting for the customer
* Must have the capacity to learn, absorb and analyse detailed information and refer to in depth medical reports and financial evidence
