My client a leading financial service mutual, who have won many awards including "Life Company of the Year" and "Insurance Company of the Year". Now looking to grow the Regulatory Monitoring Specialist team by two, to work in the wider risk and regulatory division.

I am particularly interested in speaking with individuals with strong compliance/regulatory knowledge especially those individuals with investment front or middle office experience or with strong asset management regulatory knowledge. We would also be interested in any individual with compliance experience in commercial banking.

The purpose of this role is to conduct risk-based monitoring activity to provide assurance on whether the firm and bank have adequate controls in place and deliver the right customer outcomes. The methodology adopted by the team is similar to that of the Regulator, focusing on the customer outcomes, testing against regulatory guidance and current practices and seeking to identify areas of improvement.

Main responsibilities and key activities:

  • Supporting the scoping of activity through researching the regulations relating to the specific risks or business area under review, gaining a good understanding of the business area and supporting the Lead with determining the approach to the review and what is in and out of scope
  • Conducting output based testing as required by the Lead Regulatory Monitoring Specialist, with a key focus on determining if the customer outcomes are appropriate and where they are not, identifying the root cause of the issues
  • Supporting the Lead with the sharing and documenting of review findings with objective presentation of issues to senior management and in the regulatory monitoring review report
  • Agreeing appropriate actions jointly with senior management which properly address the key risks
  • Validating actions and encouraging completion by the business in a timely manner, escalating where required
  • Developing strong and effective working relationships with Managing Directors (MDs) and senior management teams

Once fully competent, the individual would be expected to be the Lead Regulatory Monitoring Specialist on monitoring activity too working with their support to deliver reviews.

Key skills and competency requirements:

Essential

  • Demonstrated financial services regulatory/compliance experience
  • Good knowledge and understanding of the regulatory framework of the UK financial services industry
  • Already holds or prepared to work towards a Level 4 Diploma or equivalent
  • Able to work well under pressure, assess priorities in own workload, deliver high quality work and consistently meet set targets in a timely manner
  • Self-motivated and able to work from own initiative; with the ability to work both as part of a team and on their own
  • Able to exercise consistent judgement in the application of regulatory standards
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to present information to Senior Managers and Executives
  • Strong coaching skills to influence behaviours and help deliver change
  • Good problem solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent MS Office skills, particularly Word, Excel and Access
