Leading financial planning, general insurance and bank established 1841, in recent years, it has developed a highly successful business model providing tailored financial advice and products to select professional groups, notably GPs, hospital Doctors, Dentists, Teachers and Lawyers and a range of commercial financial products for the organisations in which they are employed.

Job purpose:

  • Lead on design and implementation of the group conduct risk framework
  • Lead on the delivery of the group's emerging risk framework deliverables including board level reporting
  • Facilitation of the group's top down risk assessment process
  • Provide constructive challenge to the overall risk function by leading on the integrated risk management maturity assessment process


Main responsibilities:

  • To lead on the ongoing development of our conduct risk strategy and framework, including policy, processes and training
  • Provide support and challenge to the business on the management of their conduct risks
  • Periodically produce the group conduct risk report in line with framework requirements
  • Lead the periodic review of emerging risks across the group, producing and presenting any associated reporting
  • Facilitate the top down risk assessment process, providing 2nd line challenge to risk owners where required. Produce and present the summary report to senior management
  • Lead, with support of the risk function, the integrated risk management maturity assessment process, producing and presenting the associated reports for senior management
  • Contribute to the assessment of key significant business projects/changes/transactions and the determination of the overall impact of these on the integrated risk profile and the IRM framework
  • Support the Operational Risk Manager in the generation and review of risk scenarios
  • Work closely with other risk colleagues and control functions, both internally and externally, to share experience on risk and risk management
  • Monitor developments regarding the principles, rules, guidance, interpretations and other pronouncements of the regulators regarding risk assessment and management
  • Facilitate the building of a risk aware culture within the organisation including appropriate education in line with the training and communications strategy
  • Undertake any reasonable project or activity associated with this role, as directed by the Operational Risk Manager



Key skills and competency requirements:

Essential

  • Likely to be educated to degree level with relevant professional qualifications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to present information to the board
  • Ability to provide qualitative and quantitative risk analysis
  • A good understanding of the universe of risks that may impact the group
  • Ability to challenge assessments of risks in a professional manner
  • A good understanding of cost-effective risk management
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to work on own initiative

  • Up to date knowledge management techniques

Desirable

  • Conduct risk management experience
  • Experience of working in a UK insurance company environment
  • Understanding of other financial and non-financial risk types
