Account Handler (Agricultuural Insurance)

Job description

"Farms aren't what they used to be. Neither are the brokers who insure them."

THE OPPORTUNITY

Scotland's finest independent agricultural broker is looking for an Account Handler to join their growing team.

This is a rare chance to work on some of Scotland's most significant farming and estate operations, alongside the senior brokers who lead this market.

Scotland's farming landscape is transforming at pace. Diversification, precision agriculture, agri-tech, renewable energy, and ambitious next-generation ownership are reshaping what it means to run a farm or estate.

These are no longer simple commodity operations - they're complex, multi-layered businesses with sophisticated risk profiles.

That makes agricultural insurance one of the most dynamic and genuinely interesting sectors in broking right now.

THE BUSINESS

This is a well-established, independent Scottish brokerage with deep roots in the agricultural and rural sector - the kind of business where the MD knows clients by first name and relationships are built on genuine expertise, not sales targets.

The culture is refreshingly non-corporate. No rigid hierarchy, no layers of bureaucracy. Just a talented team that genuinely backs its people - this business has promoted someone every single year, and those who perform are not kept waiting.

You'll work closely with senior executives across key accounts, with real exposure to how the very best agricultural broking business in Scotland operates.

THE ROLE

As Account Handler you'll manage a portfolio of farm and rural estate clients through the full lifecycle of their insurance programmes - new business placement, mid-term adjustments and renewals - supported by and working closely alongside senior brokers on the firm's key accounts.

Your day-to-day will include:

  • New business placement with the UK's leading specialist agricultural markets
  • Managing renewals and mid-term adjustments across a farm and estates portfolio
  • Working alongside senior brokers on large, complex and high-value accounts
  • Building strong relationships with sophisticated rural business clients
  • Supporting larger, multi-risk rural estate programmes
  • Growing your own technical expertise and profile within the specialist market

WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR

You don't need to have grown up on a farm - but you do need to be the kind of person who finds complex, real-world businesses genuinely interesting.

Someone who wants to understand a client's operation properly before placing cover.

Whether you're coming from commercial broking and looking to specialise, or you already have agricultural insurance experience, the important things are: you're technically solid, you're good with people, and you're ambitious enough to want more than just a job.

Ideally you'll have:

- A background in commercial or specialist insurance broking

  • Strong account handling and client service instincts
  • An interest in rural, agricultural or estate business sectors
  • CII qualification, or actively working towards it
  • A collaborative nature and self-motivated approach
  • Genuine ambition - you want to grow, not stand still

THE PACKAGE

  • Salary: c.£40,000, flexible to reflect experience
  • Location: Central Scotland - hybrid and flexible working available
  • Development: Full CII study support including exams, study time and costs
  • Progression: Clear and proven - someone promoted every single year
  • Culture: Independent, non-corporate, people-first
  • Market Access: The UK's best specialist agricultural underwriters

This one moves quickly. If you're an ambitious insurance professional who wants to work on genuinely interesting agricultural and estate risks - with a team that will back you all the way - get in touch.
