Job description
A well-established and growing insurance MGA is seeking an experienced Underwriter to join its underwriting team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the development and performance of digital and e-trade property & casualty insurance products, supporting a business focused on scalable, technology-led distribution.
The successful candidate will manage underwriting activities across a range of commercial products while helping optimise digital trading platforms, automated underwriting journeys, and e-trade distribution channels.
This role offers strong exposure to digital underwriting strategy, product development, and data-driven underwriting performance within a collaborative and forward-thinking environment.
Key Responsibilities
Referral Management
Act as the referral point for cases that fall outside underwriting authority.
Commercial Underwriting
Manage Commercial Combined quotations, MTAs and renewals from brokers, including risks traded through e-trade portals and automated underwriting platforms.
Digital & E-Trade Underwriting
Support the performance and optimisation of digital and e-trade products.
Contribute to underwriting rules, pricing logic, referral triggers and product enhancements alongside internal teams.
Product & Scheme Development
Work with internal teams to develop new scheme wordings, Key Facts documents and IPIDs for both existing and new coverholders.
Support schemes distributed through digital and e-trade channels.
Technical Support
Provide guidance on policy wordings and digital underwriting rules.
Act as a key technical contact for coverholders and insurers.
Market & Competitor Research
Conduct research into market developments and competitor activity, particularly in the digital and e-trade space.
Peer Reviews
Undertake peer reviews with underwriting colleagues, including analysis of automated underwriting outcomes.
Delegated Authority & Binder Management
Assist with binder management while ensuring compliance with delegated authority processes.
Policy Wordings
Draft endorsements and clauses and maintain strong oversight of policy wording application.
Survey & Claims Referrals
Review surveys and communicate required actions.
Handle claims referrals from TPAs with a clear understanding of policy coverage.
Stakeholder Engagement
Attend insurer meetings and present underwriting insights, including performance of digital and e-trade portfolios.
Training & Reporting
Deliver internal and external training where required.
Produce monthly underwriting reports for capacity providers.
Experience & Skills
Experience underwriting commercial insurance products, ideally within an MGA, delegated authority or intermediary environment
Exposure to digital or e-trade underwriting platforms
Familiarity with automated underwriting tools and high-volume trading models
Strong technical knowledge of commercial insurance wordings
Experience working with data, MI and underwriting rules
Excellent analytical, communication and presentation skills
Experience using insurance platforms such as Acturis, Open GI or similar
Strong Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Teams, OneNote)
