In house Counsel

Job description

An established national law firm is seeking an experienced Solicitor, Barrister, or CILEX Fellow to join their in-house legal team in a specialist drafting role. This is a rare opportunity for a litigation professional looking to step away from fee-earning or client-facing work and into a technically focused position within a high-performing housing litigation team.

Whether you're based in the West Midlands, Greater London-or prefer a fully remote setup-this role offers a unique blend of flexibility, legal complexity, and professional autonomy.

The Role

Working closely with senior legal professionals, you'll be responsible for drafting Particulars of Claim and Replies to Defences for housing disrepair cases. You'll support fee earners with strategic input and file assessments, helping to ensure claims are robust, compliant, and delivered to high standards. While the position is primarily drafting-focused, opportunities for advocacy may be available depending on your background and preferences.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Reviewing housing disrepair case files and preparing Particulars of Claim
  • Drafting replies to defences and counterclaims
  • Advising on legal strategy, risks, and procedural considerations
  • Collaborating with fee earners to ensure timely file turnaround
  • Option to take on advocacy (allocation or case management hearings), if desired

About You

  • The firm is open to candidates from various legal backgrounds, but the following profile is ideal:
  • Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or CILEX Fellow - ideally with 8+ PQE
  • Demonstrable experience in housing disrepair litigation or broader civil litigation
  • Skilled in drafting pleadings and working within CPR frameworks
  • Strong communicator with excellent written precision and legal analysis
  • Confident working independently, with the ability to advise on case strategy
  • Proficient in legal research and up-to-date on housing law developments
  • Comfortable in a remote or hybrid work environment

The Offer

  • Competitive salary, dependent on experience
  • Performance-based bonus scheme
  • Flexible working hours
  • Option for hybrid or fully remote working
  • Enhanced pension contribution
  • Access to a full suite of well-being, development, and lifestyle benefits
  • Supportive, forward-thinking legal team with great career potential
