Job description
Our client is a well-established and highly respected commercial insurance broker, generating approximately £50m in Gross Written Premium and operating on a national basis. With over 60 senior executives and professionals across the UK, the business has a strong central hub in Leeds, where this Managing Director role will be based.
Due to continued growth and strategic development, we have been retained to appoint an experienced Managing Director to take full responsibility for the operational, commercial, and people leadership of the business.
The Opportunity
This is a senior executive appointment offering full accountability for the day-to-day performance of a sizeable and complex brokerage. The successful candidate will work closely with the Board to deliver sustainable growth, operational excellence, and a high-performance culture.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
- Full P&L responsibility for the brokerage
- Oversight of all operational functions, ensuring efficiency, scalability, and regulatory compliance
- Drive continuous improvement across systems, processes, and service delivery
- Ensure robust governance, risk management, and FCA compliance frameworks
- Manage and develop strategic insurer and partner relationships
Sales & Commercial Strategy
- Lead and execute the firm's commercial and growth strategy
- Drive new business performance while protecting and enhancing existing revenues
- Support and challenge senior producers to maximise pipeline and conversion
- Identify new market opportunities, propositions, and potential acquisition activity
- Act as a senior ambassador for the business with clients, insurers, and the wider market
People & Leadership
- Provide leadership to a national team of senior executives and professionals
- Build, develop, and retain a high-calibre leadership team
- Embed a performance-led, values-driven culture across the organisation
- Ensure clear accountability, coaching, and succession planning at senior level
- Champion engagement, development, and retention initiatives
Candidate Profile
- Proven experience in a senior leadership or Managing Director role within commercial insurance broking
- Strong commercial acumen with a demonstrable record of driving profitable growth
- In-depth understanding of insurer relationships, market dynamics, and distribution models
- Credible and influential leader, comfortable operating at Board level
- Willing and able to be Leeds-based, leading a national operation
