About The Role
A leading and very well-established MGA who specialise in multiple business classes across the London and Regional Markets is seeking an experienced Development Underwriter to join an established team.
The division focus on Mid/SME commercial business within five key units. With ambitious short- and long-term growth plans, they are looking to expand the team to help achieve these objectives The Development Underwriter is responsible for underwriting profitable new business and renewals within agreed authority levels, while actively contributing to the development and growth of the portfolio. The role involves working closely with brokers and the wider P&C team to build strong relationships and drive business development.
The company operates a hybrid work model, combining remote work with three days per week in the City of London office.
This role will report in the Property Underwriting Manager and will provide the opportunity to learn from experienced professionals and receive full support to develop your skills. You will gain valuable insight into the operations of an MGA and play a key role in our continued success, with a clear path for career progression.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver exceptional service to brokers
- Develop and maintain strong broker relationships to maximise new business and retention opportunities
- Underwrite and manage a portfolio of business in line with underwriting guidelines, risk appetite and authority levels
- Assess and evaluate risks to ensure profitability and adhere to all regulatory requirements
- Identify cross-sell opportunities for the other Client Product suite and introduce the appropriate underwriters to support this
- Identify scheme opportunities that fits with our current underwriting appetite
- Pursue market-related learning in underwriting, compliance, procedures, and CPD
- Meet personal KPIs and contribute to team goals
Skills And Experience
- Proven experience in an underwriting role, essential to have been in a development and/or trading capacity
- Experience working with brokers with good existing relationships
- Excellent analytical, decision making and negotiation skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Commercially minded with a focus on profitable growth
- Self-starter with a drive to deliver results
