A dynamic and fast-growing insurance group is seeking a strategic and commercially astute Managing Director to lead one of its key specialist divisions within the general insurance market. Based in Essex, this is a senior leadership opportunity with significant scope to influence business performance, shape strategy, and drive cultural excellence.
Operating at Board level and reporting to the Executive Chairman, the Managing Director will take full responsibility for commercial outcomes, operational delivery, and regulatory compliance. This individual will lead a high-performing senior management team and work cross-functionally to ensure cohesive execution across core business and support functions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of strategic and operational plans to deliver EBITDA and income growth
  • Drive the business forward by analysing market trends and performance MI to identify new commercial opportunities
  • Ensure full compliance with FCA regulations and SM&CR obligations, maintaining robust governance and risk oversight
  • Provide inspirational leadership to senior teams and support talent development and succession planning
  • Influence and collaborate with key internal stakeholders including Marketing, Finance, Operations, HR, and Compliance
  • Maintain strong relationships with external partners, including insurers, clients, and service providers
  • Support and integrate new acquisitions into the business, ensuring strategic alignment and cultural fit

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • This role will suit a seasoned executive/regional manager or MD with a strong track record in the general insurance industry. The ideal candidate is commercially driven, regulatory aware, and highly skilled in managing operational complexity and leading change.

Key requirements:

  • Significant senior leadership experience in the insurance sector
  • Proven track record of delivering commercial growth and operational performance
  • Strong knowledge of FCA regulation and the SM&CR regime
  • Demonstrable ability to lead diverse teams and influence at Board level
  • Strategic mindset with hands-on delivery skills and sharp financial acumen
  • Strong communicator and relationship builder, both internally and externally
  • Resilient, self-motivated, and capable of operating effectively in a fast-paced environment
