We've been retained for a search on behalf of a global law firm who have appointed a global head to launch a regulatory consulting practice as part of the firms wider offering - the team advise the law firms regulated clients (PRA / FCA) clients globally in all thematic areas. The practice has ambitious growth plans in major hubs such as London, New York, Singapore, Dubai and Sydney however have an immediate need to hire a Director to join their Regulatory Consulting Team in the UK.


The Director of Regulatory Consulting is responsible for leading and managing the regulatory services team and location in the provision of regulatory consulting services to clients. Specifically, taking the lead on all regulatory matters, both strategic and operational with specific accountability for winning regulatory consulting assignments and oversight of project delivery.


Reporting to the Head of Regulatory Consulting, , the Director will play an active part in the Regulatory Consulting management team, providing insight, knowledge and experience enabling the firm to leverage its relationships, present greater cross-service line / blended opportunities and promote collaborative working between business units.


In this role, as the Director you will;

  • Lead and manage the regulatory team in the provision of regulatory consulting services
  • Be responsible for business development i.e. maintaining key industry relationships so as to continuously build a strong network of regulatory clients
  • Have oversight of proposals and client delivery to ensure best in class outputs. This includes ensuring appropriate project disciplines (cost trackers, risk management, development of case studies and client testimonials)
  • Be responsible for leading the regulatory team across the spectrum of MAS financial services, developing regulatory consulting collateral
  • Build the regulatory team to compliment the practice's strategy
  • Support relationships with key industry stakeholders, for example, the FCA and the industry associations (APCC and FLA)
  • Have line management responsibilities, including internal communications, career and performance management and development



Your success will be measured by;

  • Delivery on financial and utilisation targets in accordance with the agreed business plan
  • Post engagement surveys demonstrate excellence in client delivery
  • Development of good working relationships with other key stakeholders within the business to ensure a joined up and collaborative approach, in particular to facilitate and actively promote and sell cross-service line / blended opportunities
  • Compliance with internal controls including CRM, contracts in place, timesheets, project and company related risks
  • Ensuring staff are annually appraised and provide development opportunities in line with their own PDPs and wider Regulatory Consulting objectives
  • Provides positive and challenging contribution to the senior management team meetings



What is my client looking for? You need to be;

  • An expert within regulatory consulting projects across the broad spectrum of UK retail financial services sectors
  • Have a strong track record of managing and delivering regulatory consulting assignments and leading and managing a regulatory consulting or advisory team
  • Possess strong networks within the regulatory environment
  • Have Experience of liaising at a senior level to form strong working relationships and facilitate the
  • Have comprehensive and detailed understanding of the FCA including both current and emerging issues affecting firms and its approach to supervision
  • Broad knowledge of UK retail financial services, including regulation, market and competitor activity and industry trends
  • Meet FCA skilled person requirements to become a nominated skilled person in the business for the provision of FCA Lot 5 skilled persons reviews
  • Be an excellent communicator with the ability to convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders
