Brief
Charles Russell Speechlys are a leading UK based law firm with offices across Europe and the Middle East. They approached IDEX’s specialist Legal team in 2017 with a desire to appoint a Litigation Partner to launch their Dubai office. This was a key role for Charles Russell Speechlys as it would strengthen their position in the Middle East and open up new avenues for revenue generation and growth.
The mandate was to secure an experienced individual, who was already a Partner at a renowned firm, based within the region and ideally possesses a healthy client base in either the Litigation or Construction sectors.

Process

The first part of our process was to arrange an initial meeting with the Managing Partner of Charles Russell Speechlys, in order to scope out the wider details of the role, its impact within the business and the importance of the position in the wider group strategy. After this, our specialist Legal team were confident recommending that a retained project, focussing on a proactive headhunting campaign, was the most effective solution for this particular assignment. IDEX worked closely with Charles Russell Speechlys to design an interview process designed to secure the right individual, offering advice based on our core 4 step methodology; Insight, Attraction, Selection and Retention.

Our team then utilised their extensive network and knowledge of the Middle East market to identify and research all potential candidates that fit the criteria. After discussing this list with Charles Russell Speechlys, the team carried out a series of targeted headhunt calls to the individual deemed most suitable for the role.
Following the headhunting phase, we met with suitable candidates to discuss their experience, background, motivations and aspirations in further detail. At the same time, discussing the client’s culture, environment, strategic goals and all aspects of the role in more detail, before confirming their interest in progressing.

This process resulted in the identification of 2 particularly strong candidates, who were then discussed with Charles Russell Speechlys along with IDEX’s recommendations, with one of the candidates through the interview process. In total the whole process took 2 months, with the candidate going through 3 interviews before they were offered the role.

End result
After the successful completion of the project, the appointed candidate joined Charles Russell Speechlys with 20 years’ experience specialising in litigation and dispute resolution in the Middle East. They had established a strong regional dispute resolution practice - handling cases for regional and international clients in local courts and litigation throughout the wider UAE.
Since starting in their new role, not only did the candidate bring a wealth of experience to the office, but they also transferred their previous team including two Senior Litigation Associates and one Litigation Associate.
